When I was younger, I loved nothing more than to wander among bookshelves with a friend, grabbing a coffee at a nearby cafe, and then strolling home. But books cost money. How’s this for an alternative that makes a great date or one-on-one time with one of your children:

Go–with spouse/significant other/older kid–to the Beverly Hills Library. As you meander leisurely though the stacks, each of you should pick out a book (or two) for the other to borrow. You could find your favorite books from your childhoods. Share that poem you obsessed about in college. Swap that novel with the main character you always identified with.

When your done, there’s a coffee shop attached to the library. I’ve never been in there, but with the location and the free parking, it’s worth a shot.
