Spring has sprung here in L.A.!

The wisteria and fruit trees are in bloom everywhere, and it’s time to get in the spring state of mind.

Take advantage of the cooler daytimes temps for a hike. Why not try a trail that culminates in a waterfall? The local ones often dry up in the summer, and who wants to shvitz anyway?

Why not visit the farm to pick strawberries (see this older post for details)?

It’s the tail end of whale watching season–why not visit Palos Verdes to try it? (Binoculars are recommended.)

Interested in finding out not only whales, but other migrating animals such as the beautiful butterflies we’re beginning to see everywhere? Try this special “Good Migrations” nighttime hike this weekend in Temescal Canyon: http://www.lamountains.com/pdf/Temescal%20Winter%202012%20WEB.pdf

Upcoming spring events on their way include the L.A. Times Festival of Books and the March and April LA ArtWalks.

If you are Jewish, Wednesday night and Thursday will be the holiday of Purim! Put on a costume, hand out gifts of food to the poor (and a friend, too) and find a Purim party near you. Need help locating somewhere to celebrate Purim? Try this link.

And don’t forget to plan ahead for free access to most National Parks during

National Park Week, April 21-29.
