Moorpark Farm Center

While L.A. may be a bustling metropolis, California produces an enormous proportion of the U.S.’s fruits and vegetables. Underwood Family Farms is just a bit over an hour north of Los Angeles, but it feels like a world away–quiet, green, and s-l-o-w. There are rides for the kids, animals to learn about and watch, a small playground for the tots, shady picnic space, and lots of “pick your own” crops in season right now. (If you like tomatoes, this is the place to go!) A visit is $2 cheaper per person on weekends, but still reasonably affordable during weekends. There are also seasonal special events.

Orange County has its own family farm experience available at Tanaka Farms. It’s a little less affordable than Underwood, but visitors will have a great time. Check out its website here: http://www.tanakafarms.com/
